Dumpsters, Temporary Storage, and Port-a-lets Policy

The Columbine Valley Municipal Code prohibits temporary dumpsters, storage units, and portable toilets anywhere within the Town right-of-way. Any use or application of these for private use must be kept on an individuals private property.

  • Portable Toilets: Prior to the commencement of construction of any residential or commercial building on any building site, an enclosed portable toilet shall be utilized until indoor facilities are available for use.
  • Dumpsters: Prior to the commencement of construction of any residential or commercial building on any building site, and after the issuance of a demolition/building permit, a dumpster of sufficient size shall be placed on the site in a location approved by the Town’s building department.

All temporary toilets and dumpsters shall be removed from the site prior to the issuance of a Certificate of Occupancy or upon the expiration of a building permit, whichever occurs first.

In instances where a building permit is not required, a property owner may utilize dumpsters, storage units, or portable toilets as follows:

  • The property owner must obtain a cost-free permit from the town.
  • The unit must remain on private property. Units may not be placed on the street or in the Town’s right-of-way.
  • The unit is only permitted to be on site for 30 days or less.

There are no variances or exceptions to these rules available.
