Residents consider the golf cart the “official car” of Columbine Valley. Given how often residents drive golf carts to get around Town, it’s important to drive them safely. To ensure everyone’s safety, Columbine Valley Ordinance 10.08.030 covers regulations related to driving golf carts on streets within the Town. The golf cart regulations include:
- License: Only licensed drivers may operate golf carts on Town streets.
- Traffic rules: Golf carts must be operated in accordance with state and local laws, which means all traffic laws apply—including stopping at stop signs.
- Lights: Golf carts must be lit at night with two headlights and two taillights that are visible at a distance of 500 feet. (Night is defined as from sunset to sunrise.)
- Violations: Violations of golf cart regulations spelled out in Ordinance 10.08.030 are subject to penalties in current traffic laws.
- State highways: Golf carts are prohibited from operating on South Platte Canyon Road, which is a state highway, but they may cross the road at the crosswalk.
- Surrounding jurisdictions: Columbine Valley ordinance 10.08.030 applies only to streets within the Town limits. Once a driver crosses South Platte Canyon Road or West Bowles Avenue, the regulations of that jurisdiction apply (for example, City of Littleton or Arapahoe County).
Thank you for driving safely in Columbine Valley!
